Let's be honest. Anytime you need to coach kids soccer squad, the experience in itself can sometimes become quite overwhelming. Because your players are young, you feel completely stumped with what training techniques you can implement within your training sessions.
As coach, you must remember one key component...YOU are in control. So...don't panic, relax and just refer to the below simple techniques that will make your training sessions that much more exciting, fun and overall a great experience for you and your players.
Training Technique #1 - Warm Up
Get your players to warm up. Great way to get started and not all that demanding. You can get your players to around the field once or twice. Remember you're coaching kids soccer here, it's not a boot camp. Keep it simple.
Training Technique #2 - Kicking and Passing Drills
Once the warm up is completed, have them do some passing drills (e.g. simple passing - back and forth, one-touch passing) and maybe a few kicking drills as well (e.g. kicking the ball with the inside of the foot, then change direction).
Training Technique #3 - Have a Game
Always try and have a practice game where you pick the teams based on how they perform in the drills. It's always a great motivator for your young players to know that they have something to look forward to at the end of their training session. This will keep morale high and your training exciting.
Bonus Technique - What You Don't Do
Don't do drills that have your players standing in line. Especially if it's your first practice. The more time on the ball the better.
